Take a boat to the Temple of Philae.

6 days in Egypt

The sacred Temple of Isis, more commonly known as the Philae Temple, is one of Upper Egypt’s most exciting buildings. It was a favorite subject of Victorian painters because of the beauty of its reliefs and the symmetry of its architecture.

The Temple of Isis is an essential part of the Philae Temple complex and was the center of the old Isis cult. Still, the island is home to the Temple of Hathor, the Kiosk of Trajan, and other buildings from the Roman and Byzantine times.

You can get to the island and its temple complex by boat. You can see much of the Nile on the way there and back.

The best and most relaxing way to see Aswan is from a felucca, a traditional sailboat. From there, you can see the town from the watery highway that once made Aswan an important trading post.

The Unfinished Obelisk

Egypt Itinerary 6 Days

The famous Unfinished Obelisk is in Aswan’s Northern Quarry. It is a 41-meter-long, 4-meter-wide piece of stone that was likely left unfinished because it had a crack.

If the obelisk had been finished, it would have weighed 1,168 tonnes and been the most significant piece of stone ever cut.

On the nearby rock faces, you can also see many signs of the work of stonecutters from long ago. The blocks here would have been taken off the rock by drilling holes along a set line, driving wedges into them, and then soaking the wedges in water to loosen the block.

Day 5: Day Trip to Abu Simbel

Egypt Itinerary 6 Days

Tourism in Abu Simbel represents one of the busiest in Egypt. These temples are of incredible beauty, which is why they attract many tourists year after year. So, it is common for them to be one of the most frequented areas.

The temples you will find there belong to the Open-Air Museum of Nubia and Aswan, a complex declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. So, to get to know this place, you need to go to the western shore of Lake Nasser, about 231 km southwest of Aswan.

The Temple of Abu Simbel is one of the essential attractions in all of Egypt thanks to its design and level of conservation. It is dedicated to Ramses and various great deities such as Amun, Ra, and Ptah.
